Seed to start this year

No blooms on seedlings last year - what a horrendous year all around for the garden, so no big surprise. In spite of that, I've narrowed down the areas that I want to work with and have a much more focused selection of seeds to start this year. I'll post photo entries soon.

The main focus areas are:

1) Splashes and Stripes and Patterns on open flowers. Preferably the Spatulate form.
2) Pale watermarks with white edges on UF forms.
3) Tall black stemmed, pale pastel flowers. Spidery or trumpet shaped.

Flutterbye x Military School

FLUTTERBYE (Childs F) 1981 DOR DIP Lavender self with a pale lavender eyezone. Creamy chalky yellow throat fading to lettuce green heart. Petals are deep lavender with a wide, lighter lavender edge - can almost appear near-white - and slight ruffling. Recurved sepals are pale lavender also with a lighter edge. Sometime the sepals actually recurve into themselves and appear paler in color than the petals. A good bloomer with well branched scapes. Excellent plant habits. Early to midseason, 6” blooms, 26” scapes.

Seedling (#20ellis) x Military School

Sandy Ellis seedling #20 (Indian Giver x Pink Super Spider) Absolutely fabulous performer in my zone 5/6 garden. Lots of buds. Blooms over a long period, saturated color blooms in a dark red overshot with purple with darker rays of color coming out from a big green throat. Velvety substance. Fast to increase. Mid to late season, 5 inch bloom. I think the watermarked eye, which isn't very visible in this picture, will pick up the pattern of Military School, at least thats what I'm hoping.

SEEDLING #3 from 2006. (Linda Michael's Dallas Star seedling x Trahlyta) Held onto this one for the fabulous color and the wire edge of near white. Fantastic red color, not sure how to describe it, maybe carmine red? Watermarked eye with a pencil edge of darker purply-red. Star-shaped yellow eye fading into a good green heart. A little on the short side but the color is fabulous.
